Heterotopic Ossification

This disorder is characterised histologically and radiographically by the formation of normal bone tissue in soft tissues where it should normally not form.

  • Incidence: 20-25% of all spinal injuries, in brain damage it ranges from 10-20%.
  • Aetiopathogenesis: unknown
  • Joints affected: the most common is the hip.
  • Followed by the knee.
